Do you know what it feels like?
To feel something, but...
be unable to express what it is;
to be silent;
to fight it alone.

I know how much it hurts,
but I don't know how to show it.
Poetry used to be my refuge,
a place where I could be alone -
express all my emotions,
without being judged.

I'm losing it.
I can't connect to poetry.
Everything sounds so stupid...
Everything I write sounds stupid.
I have to erase all my feelings,
because they don't sound right.

The words aren't real.
They don't show what I feel
And maybe this will be the last.
Maybe I'm gone:
lost of all emotions.
I'm truly alone...
I used to have poetry.

Now I have nothing.
I've lost my touch with words.
--

The irony is that, I am using words...yet these words don't seem real.

i totally get it...and not in the stereotypical "i feel your pain bro" bs people often spout...but i used to love writing poetry,it used to flow out of my mind like a faucet being turned on with every major emotion that occured to me...but now..i cant feel enough to have anything worth writing that wont be half made up crap to make it sound right or just plain bad poetry... sucks to have your whole world go grey and put in a daze...everything some pixilated version of the clarity its supposed to have.. . because there's nothing poetic or artsy about it...just empty..void.

I've run into this several times over the past few years, and my only solution is to sprint headlong through it. You keep pushing yourself to write, even if what you write down doesn't feel right. During this time let the people who read your stuff dictate how good something is, how good it feels to them.

This is me in a nutshell. I used to write so much poetry, and now it all sounds stupid and I just can't do it anymore. My only escape from my loneliness is music.

This... is not the first, nor will it be the last. It happens to every good writer. I felt like this before, and sometimes I still do. Just know that writing something even if it doesn't feel right, is better than writing nothing just because you cant make it feel right in your mind. To us, readers, it feels just perfect.

I like this. Losing the words to properly express myself is one of my fears as a writer. If you feel as if words have lost their meaning in your poems, try writing 'found' poems. A found poem is where you take little bits and pieces of quotes from other sources of literature and try to mash them up into one great poem.

I like this. We're losing words. I am a teacher, and spelling has stopped being an official part of the curriculum and the teaching approaches to language have changed drastically in my area of the world. Nothing is written any more, all typed. My partner and I were discussing about how some of my past students couldn't really express things in words very well. This was an interesting read for me given all that.

I have an issue with my hands which effectively means I type everything I write, yet I'm still more adept as expressing myself both vocally and visually with words. Not all of us have lost that ability.

I actually have an illness that also effects my ability to use my hands. I still however find it easier to type than write, and still prefer writing to speaking thanks to a learning disability. It's all very interesting. I wasn't suggesting that everyone has lost the ability, just making some observations through my own experiences as a leader role.

Throughout time, words lose their innovation.
We search for a new motivation.

We don't know whether there will be a new light.
We just know that not all words are bright.

We seek a truth to why words are dull.
Our speeches end up being null.

So what is your speech? Controlled and kept close? Or is it loosened and set to wander?

Maybe it's the words that are losing their touch with you; maybe you no longer find they suffice to express your feelings. Maybe you need something else, try something different.

After my friend died, the words that I used to make dance across the page wouldn't dance for me anymore. And I have discovered that there aren't any words that are strong enough to hold all of that emotion. So I know how you feel. I'll keep you posted.... I'm off in search of a happy ending...

Sometimes, the best words are the ones not spoken. You may not have written what you thought was real, but if you look at it this way: those words are just the shadow of your real words.

Let's face it: there are some things that can't be put into words.

*puts hand on your shoulder* I know that feel. I haven't written in ages, mainly because I don't know what I'm doing the minute is sit down. Take some time to yourself. You'll find your way back--I know because this poem sounded really not stupid. And you were using words. :)

I feel this way every once in a while. Usually, it's a sign that I need to take some time to myself and either think harder about what's bothering me, or go do something completely unrelated to writing to build up some inspiration. Either way, it always passes.
I hope you find the words you're looking for.

I have that feeling sometimes when I'm drawing, that no matter what I put down it looks completely wrong from what's in my head.

My brother and my mom, both artists, gave me some advice for situations like this where I want to keep erasing what I'm drawing.

Don't.

Keep it down no matter what and just keep going. And it works. I forced myself to practice, and to let nothing, not even a lack of ideas, stop me.

This even happens with my writing, and then I just basically said to myself "No, forget this, I want to be a writer so I'm going to freaking write."

And I managed to get back in the groove.

I can even sleep easier now at night, and I'm sure this is because of it.

In fact, here is something you can quote me on.

"Though your words may leave you...
"...and you feel like you have died as a writer...
"...be you a poet, scripter, or just an author...
"...writer's never die...
"...they simply start over...
"...because words are the magic of our world."

So don't you dare give up. I won't give up on you. If you feel that you need help, I will personally take time out of my day any day that I can to give it to you without a second thought. I guarantee it.

I've been through that too hun, it does suck but you will write again in time. Just try to find inspiration in the small things and set aside time to write everyday, at least 20 mins or so. Even if you can't think of anything to write poetry-wise, just free write anything and everything that's going through your mind and don't stop to edit or correct what you're writing. This is what I did when I was in a similar situation, and it really helped. You will get through this! If you need help, just shoot me a message on DA and I will be more than willing to do my best to help you :)

This was very inspiring! And don't worry, you're not alone. I know what it feels like to have feelings that are just indescribable and to hate the fact that I can't express them right. Sometimes, it helps to try to relax or to find someone you trust and pour out any tears you feel need to escape. Don't ever stop doing what you love; this poem was really good, and I'm sure there's plenty more where this came from!

Keep going. Honey, art is expression. You have THOROUGHLY expressed your frustration and feel of disconnection. Disconnection from what of your escapes and passions. That's intense but it's also truly just a part of life's cycle.

So. Keep going. Your expressed emotions are NOT stupid.

Well, I wrote out something hopefully inspiring, but then I accidentally pressed the back key, and lost it.

But here was the gist of it: I understand completely...try to relax, because the more you worry and let it break you down, the worse it gets. I've been through this already once before, and it does go away. In some people, it comes back again, but if it faded once...it has to again, right?
So wait for that, keep writing...but don't worry about what you write. And if you can't write anything, then read something that inspires you, watch a movie that you love, take walks and just let your mind wander. Listen to some music that makes you feel emotion.
You could also take a break, sometimes the writers block is a product of our environment, and when things change, we can open up again.

This very poem describes my relation to image and idea. I am glad to fully read the irony of beïng creative and serving others while feeling very R.I.P. inside. I can fully underscore this feeling, which I believe can be put on everyone, on everyones dream. Keep going, keep believing and as said: let go while take a rest.

It is that: take a rest: R.I.P. but keep alive please…

Ye man it just sounds like you bettered from something and all the goodness has gone and now the hurt of the worst is going to hit you in the face. I don't want to patronise you with ideas of getting by, because you need some way of beating the transition or you could just go with it and see what happens. Either way you'll be happy again at some stage.
